Channel A’s “Heart Signal” has spoken up about its season one cast member Kang Sung Wook.
They relayed to TV Report, “The filming for the show ended in April 2017. The producers cannot know about his personal life after this.”
A source from Channel A also stated to OSEN, “We have halted all VOD rerun services for ‘Heart Signal’ season one, featuring Kang Sung Wook.” Though the episodes were taken down, short highlight clips are still available. On July 30, MBN’s “News 8” reported that musical actor Kang Sung Wook had received a five-year prison sentence for rape.
According to MBN’s report, the incident took place in August 2017 in Busan. At a restaurant establishment, Kang Sung Wook shared a table with a male university friend and two women who were working as bar waitresses. Kang Sung Wook brought the women to his male friend’s home with the promise of an additional service charge, and when one of the women left early, he and his friend forcibly prevented the other woman from leaving and assaulted her. The victim tried to file a criminal complaint against him for sexual assault, but he claimed that she was a “gold-digger” and told her, “Who would believe a woman like you?”
At Kang Sung Wook’s trial, the Seoul Central District Court stated, “The victim’s testimony is consistent and she has never tried to get money out of the defendant” before sentencing Kang Sung Wook to five years imprisonment. Kang Sung Wook’s legal representatives have filed an appeal.
Kang Sung Wook is a 35-year-old actor (Korean age) who studied acting at the Seoul Institute of Arts before debuting in the musical “Phantom of the Opera” in 2015. He has since appeared in musical productions such as “The Sorrows of Young Werther,” “Newsies,” and “The Goddess Is Watching.”
He is most familiar to viewers in the Channel A romance variety show “Heart Signal,” where he gained a reputation for being proactive in his approaches to women. It has now been revealed that the act of sexual assault for which he was charged took place around the same time that he was filming the show. He also appeared last year in the KBS drama “Marry Me Now.”
