Rocket Punch Talks About Support From Lovelyz, How Takahashi Juri Joined Woollim, And More
On August 7, Woollim’s new girl group, Rocket Punch, held their debut showcase at the Yes24 Live Hall.
Leader Yeonhee said, “My heart is beating so fast right now. Half of me is happy to stand on stage, half of me is shaking because I’m nervous.” Dahyun, who has garnered attention for being one of the youngest idols in the industry (she was born in 2005), said, “I am nervous right now but the older members told me that I should not worry and do it like we practiced.”
Takahashi Juri, a former “Produce 48” contestant and AKB48 member, shared how she came to join Woollim Entertainment. She said, “I’m happy to be able to stand here with the other five members after preparing for so long. I got an email from Woollim and we started talking. I told them that I wanted to make my debut in Korea. The agency told me that they would support me so I came to Korea. I’ve always had an interest in Woollim as an agency, so I trusted them.”
Yeonhee said, “We saw Juri on ‘Produce 48’ and cheered her on, so we were happy to meet her as a fellow member. We were excited to be able to debut with her. At first, there was a language barrier so we had to communicate through body language, but we’re studying Japanese and she is studying Korean.”
Rocket Punch is the first girl group from Woollim since 2014, which is when Lovelyz made their debut. Yeonhee said, “I don’t know about pressure, but we can stand confidently in front of the reporters today because we have worked hard for our dream of debuting. We prepared with confidence because Lovelyz supported us and cheered us on. Whenever we meet them, they tell us that they are cheering us on, and recently Mijoo sunbaenim told us that she was watching over us.”
Yunkyong added, “The seniors gave us words of encouragement and said that we’re doing well. Jiae sunbaenim promoted us on V Live yesterday. We’re very grateful [for their support].”
