Red Velvet's Joy Shares How Her Friendship With Jang Yoon Joo And Irene Kim Made Her Change

Red Velvet’s Joy spoke about her friendship with models Jang Yoon Joo and Irene Kim.

On the September 7 broadcast of “Ask Us Anything,” the three hosts of OnStyle’s “Get It Beauty” appeared as guests.

Joy began, “I’m close with Irene and Jang Yoon Joo.” Jang Yoon Joo added, “I’m really close with Joy. I appeared on a travel program called ‘Pajama Friends’ with Joy, and she really liked me. Joy is a colorful person who has many stories she wants to tell, but she had been suppressing herself and had been limited as to what she can express since she’s an idol. That had built up inside of her, and she felt refreshed by how I would speak my mind for her.”

Seo Jang Hoon commented, “Joy must’ve relieved a lot of her inner anger. When she came on the show last time, she had a lot of anger.” Joy replied, “I want to apologize. That was before I met these two, so I couldn’t relieve my anger and had a lot of anger inside of me. I’m sorry Jang Hoon.”

Joy and Seo Jang Hoon hugged it out, and Kang Ho Dong commented, “I think Joy changed a bit after meeting Yoon Joo. Joy came forward first with her arms open to make up. It’s not easy to let go of your image, and it requires courage.”

Jang Yoon Joo said, “There’s Red Velvet’s Joy, but there’s also the life of a person and woman named Park Soo Young (Joy’s given name). I told her that she needs to think about Park Soo Young’s life and find herself. I entered modeling school when I was 16 years old and had an identity crisis throughout my 20s. I know idols go through the same thing.”

Complimenting the Red Velvet member, Jang Yoon Joo said, “She’s the tallest in Red Velvet and has a glamorous body. Do you guys know that?” The cast members were silent for a moment before Seo Jang Hoon replied, “Wouldn’t it be weirder that we know that?”

After everyone burst into laughter, Jang Yoon Joo said, “She had only worn pretty, lovely, and feminine things, but she was so sexy when she wore just a white T-shirt and jeans during our TV broadcast last year. I was so surprised because [her beauty] was hidden beneath her clothes. She was so beautiful. I told her, ‘Boldly show your sexiness. Then, you will shine more.’ Joy said she heard that for the first time.”

Irene Kim added, “Her style changed a lot” and Joy agreed by saying, “That’s correct. After meeting these two, I thought a lot about it. I started thinking more about beauty and fashion, and I think I’ve changed.” Seo Jang Hoon commented, “I think you’ve definitely changed. Compared to when you came here last time, your vibes changed.”

“Joy asked me many questions when she met me,” revealed Jang Yoon Joo. “She asked me, ‘How did you date? How did you get married?’ I’d tell her my story realistically, and she really liked it. I tell stories while drawing pictures and speak honestly. Joy slowly changed. During our program, she speaks candidly and strikes poses.”

She added, “I receive so many DMs [direct messages] from her fans. They write, ‘Please don’t forget she’s an idol’ and ‘You have to keep the broadcast appropriate. You can’t keep encouraging Joy like that.'”
