Watch: MAMAMOO, Park Bom, And AOA Kick Off Cover Battle With Fierce Performances On “Queendom”

The competition is heating up on “Queendom”!

On the September 12 episode, female artists faced off in their second battle with cover performances.

(G)I-DLE, who won the first battle, got the chance to create the cue sheet for the second battle. (G)I-DLE’s Shuhua chose MAMAMOO as the first performer and AOA as the third, while Jeon Soyeon chose (G)I-DLE as the fifth. AOA’s Seolhyun said, “I wanted to avoid going second.”

Lovelyz was placed as the sixth performer and Oh My Girl as the fourth. (G)I-DLE’s Minnie, however, switched AOA and Park Bom at the last minute, making AOA the second performer and Park Bom the third.

MAMAMOO prepared for their performance by listening to AOA’s songs, and they were were surprised by the very high notes. The members unanimously chose “Good Luck,” and Solar explained, “Their songs had many high notes and were hard to sing, but we chose ‘Good Luck’ because it’s a good song and it seemed like it would be a good fit for us.”

AOA found themselves in deep thought after listening to MAMAMOO’s songs which were of a totally different style than theirs. They then fell in love while watching performances for “Egotistic” and decided to cover this track.

Park Bom chose to cover (G)I-DLE’s “Hann” and said, “I hope it has hip hop vibes. Like us 2NE1. I have to get No. 1.” Describing a supporter she was planning on bringing on stage, Park Bom said, “She’s the best at competitions. I think she’s going to tear up the stage.”

Before going on stage, Solar stated, “We practiced more and paid more attention since it wasn’t our song.” About what to keep an eye out for, Moonbyul added, “All of our outfits are different. Each member prepared a mini concert.”

As Moonbyul said, each MAMAMOO member filled the stage in their own way. Solar appeared surprised by a sudden slip, but the group successfully completed a powerful performance.

AOA faced unexpected challenges during practice such as Chanmi’s injury and Seolhyun’s absence, but they worked hard nonetheless. Before going on stage, Seolhyun said, “We’ll show you a kind of performance that will make people say, ‘AOA is doing this kind of performance?'”

The girl group revealed their cover performance of MAMAMOO’s “Egotistic” and showcased their powerful charms while wearing pantsuits. They inserted a surprising dance break with other dancers and earned applause.

Hwasa commented, “It was really cool that they changed it into AOA’s style,” and Moonbyul added, “The dancers were amazing. Their stage chemistry worked really well together.”

Park Bom got ready to unveil her cover of (G)I-DLE’s “Hann” but kept everything under wraps until the performance by holding closed rehearsals. She said, “I brought in an expert to make an impact on the ranking. I’m going to No. 1.”

The singer appeared on stage with a fierce outfit and showed her rendition of “Hann.” (G)I-DLE praised her, saying, “It suits her so well.” Park Bom’s supporter was revealed to be none other than rapper Cheetah who mesmerized with her rap and elicited excited cheers from the other girl groups.

Park Bom thanked Cheetah after the performance. With a smile, she stated, “I think I’m going to be in the upper ranks.”

“Queendom” airs on Thursdays at 9:20 p.m. KST. Which performance was your favorite so far?
