WINNER’s Kim Jin Woo Makes Generous Donation To Help Relief Efforts Following Typhoon Lingling
WINNER’s Kim Jin Woo has made a generous donation to help those who have been affected by Typhoon Lingling.
The Korea Disaster Relief Association revealed that Kim Jin Woo donated 10 million won (approximately $8,400) on September 11 and asked that his donation be used to help those who have suffered damages from the typhoon.
According to the organization, Typhoon Lingling has resulted in at least 28 casualties and over 14,000 hectares of agricultural damages. Most of the damages were centered around Ganghwa, Incheon and the South Jeolla Province. In Ganghwa, it is estimated that the typhoon has caused 7.75 billion won (approximately $6.5 million) in property damages. In the South Jeolla Province, 58 houses were flooded, 9,000 hectares of farmland and 589 fishery facilities were affected, resulting in 6.3 billion won (approximately $5.3 million) of damages. Kim Jin Woo has personal ties to South Jeolla Province, as he was born in Imja Island.
A source from Korea Disaster Relief Association stated, “We are in need of more national awareness about the damages and relief efforts following Typhoon Lingling, but the severity of the damages is still not widely known even after the Chuseok holidays. We hope that donations from celebrities such as Kim Jin Woo will help bring more attention to relief efforts.”
