On September 20, “Melting Me Softly” held a press conference ahead with Ji Chang Wook, Won Jin Ah, Yoon Se Ah, Im Won Hee, director Shin Woo Chul, and writer Baek Mi Kyung in attendance.

The upcoming drama will tell the story of Ma Dong Chan (Ji Chang Wook) and Go Mi Ran (Won Jin Ah) who participate in a science project of freezing humans for 24 hours, but due to mysterious circumstances, they wake up 20 years later.

Regarding his reasons for casting Ji Chang Wook and Won Jin Ah, director Shin Woo Chul explained, “Ji Chang Wook showed off his acting abilities through several projects, and I have had my eye on Won Jin Ah since her debut. I felt certain that this actress has more to show. This character is completely different from her previous characters. I felt certain that I could show different sides of Ji Chang Wook and Won Jin Ah.”

Writer Baek Mi Kyung added, “Ma Dong Chan is a character who is reckless enough to participate an experiment of being frozen, and he is sort of like Don Quixote. He doesn’t seem to have a sense of reality, but the sweetness of Ji Chang Wook has made him into a more likable and public-friendly character.”

She continued, “There were some concerns about the casting of Won Jin Ah, as some said that she doesn’t fit the character and that she has not shown much previously. However, the director and I really liked her, and meeting her personally, she is very similar to Go Mi Ran.”

Ji Chang Wook shared that he chose the drama because he found the plot interesting. “I think the relationships between the characters after 20 years will be fun [to watch].”

Won Jin Ah commented, “I don’t remember much from 1999 because I was young, so I asked the senior actors a lot,” and added, “I thought a lot about how to be convincing in expressing the situation.”

Yoon Se Ah plays Na Ha Young, who is the girlfriend of Ma Dong Chan before he is frozen. She revealed, “I thought a lot about [the concept of] waiting for someone I love for 20 years. There are emotions that develop with age. Ha Young is in touch with emotions that I personally have been blocking out in my life, so this drama gives me an opportunity to be honest with myself, which is comforting and allows me to learn.

Im Won Hee mentioned that Lee Hong Ki is playing the younger version of his character Son Hyun Ki. He drew laughter as he said, “I will apologize to Lee Hong Ki.” He continued regarding his character, “I like this character so much. I like when my character adds comedy to a drama.”

When asked about expectations for viewership ratings, Baek Mi Kyung responded, “I do think about it, but I’m really not sure. It’s not my decision, so I don’t know. I feel like I should say something, but I don’t know what to expect. I hope the ratings turn out well.” She continued, “Our drama was made for all ages to watch and enjoy happily. I think it will make viewers happy.”

Im Won Hee remarked, “I hope for the ratings to hit 10 percent quickly,” and Ji Chang Wook added, “Just thinking about it makes me happy.”

“Melting Me Softly” is set to premiere on September 28 at 9 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki.
