Watch: AKMU's Lee Chan Hyuk Reveals He Initially Didn't Qualify For Active Duty Military Service
AKMU, who recently made a comeback with their third album “SAILING,” appeared as guests on this week’s episode of KBS2’s “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook.”
MC Yoo Hee Yeol revealed that he was surprised when Lee Chan Hyuk announced that he was going to enlist in the military, because AKMU had been actively promoting.
Lee Chan Hyuk said, “There’s something that I never said, but at the time, I actually was placed as a public service worker. I’m not sure why, but they said my liver was bad. I don’t drink at all. But the person who was doing the examination said to me, ‘You must drink a lot.’ I had a bad liver, and I also had only graduated from middle school.”
Lee Soo Hyun explained that they were homeschooled, so they needed to take the qualification exam for their high school diploma. Lee Chan Hyuk said, “I was placed in public service, but I got my high school diploma, reapplied for active duty, and was accepted.”
Lee Chan Hyuk also wrote a military song while serving. He said, “There was a contest and a reward, and I thought I’d like to leave something behind, so I wrote a military song. The response to it was much better than I thought it would be.”
