Rules Followed By The "Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency" Matchmakers To Create The Best Matches
In JTBC’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency,” the Flower Crew members have a book that includes all the necessary advice on matchmaking. The Flower Crew members live and breathe the book, and it is safe so say that the book is one of the biggest reasons why the Flower Crew has such a high success rate.
With that being said, here are some words of advice that the Flower Crew members must follow!
Spoilers ahead!
1. Chapter 1: Before discussing a marriage, matchmakers must meet both the prospective groom and bride.
The first advice in the book, which Ma Hoon (Kim Min Jae) has repeatedly told his crew members, is one that must be followed in every occasion. When a customer makes a request for a marriage, the Flower Crew’s profiler Ma Hoon, alongside the image consultant Go Young Soo (Park Ji Hoon) and the informant Do Joon (Byun Woo Seok), meets the prospective groom and bride themselves.
By doing so, the crew members were able to discover a big secret of one of the customers, Maiden Oh (Lee Soo Ji). She showed repulsion to strong scents and covered her belly any time a loud sound was made somewhere, and through these clues, they figured out that she was pregnant. As a result, they were able to avoid a disaster, and it was a moment in which this particular advice truly proved its importance.
2. Chapter 2: When proceeding with a marriage, only believe what is in front of you.
Ma Hoon believes that tangible qualifications of the bride and groom are more important than the feelings they have for each other. For Ma Hoon, tying the knot means “finding the right person instead of finding love.” This is because he has witnessed many couples, whom his aspiring matchmaker brother had matched up, fall apart, which led him to believe that feelings are not a priority when it comes to marriage. He could not accept Lee Soo’s (Seo Ji Hoon‘s) request to match him up with Gae Ddong (Gong Seung Yeon) because he believed that this relationship was based on feelings. However, Lee Soo’s unwavering feelings for Gae Ddong has started to shake up Ma Hoon’s belief.
3. Chapter 11: Even if the marriage doesn’t work out, once a customer, always a customer.
With Ma Hoon as their leader, the Flower Crew members feel a sense of responsibility to do their best to bring people together. It is their priority to successfully fulfill any marriage requests, but even when a marriage fails to happen, they feel the responsibility to continue to take care of their customers. This applied to Mrs. Lim (Im Ji Eun), who decided to get remarried in order for her daughter to avoid being chosen as the king’s wife. This leads Mrs. Lim to the danger of being killed by Ma Bong Deok (Park Ho San), but it is the Flower Crew members who make sure that Mrs. Lim is able to escape from the danger by facing off the people who are sent to kill her. This showed the sincerity of the Flower Crew members towards their customers.
4. Chapter 15: Matchmakers are not allowed to have personal feelings towards customers.
After Ma Hoon figures out that his father Ma Bong Deok is trying to harm Gae Ddong, he takes on the risky project of marrying Gae Ddong with King Lee Soo. It is risky as they need to make Gae Ddong, who does not have a proper background, the next queen of Joseon. While spending time with Gae Ddong to teach her proper manners, Ma Hoon begins to develop personal feelings towards her. Every time, he has to turn around and remind himself that matchmakers are not allowed to have feelings for a customer. However, this all changes when Gae Ddong confesses her feelings towards Ma Hoon. Anticipation is high as to whether or not Ma Hoon will accept Gae Ddong’s feelings and thus go against the book.
