Actor Jung Won Joong Involved In Car Accident + Motorcyclist Passes Away

Actor Jung Won Joong has expressed his sorrow and apologies following the fatal car accident.

Jung Won Joong told news outlet EDaily, “I feel like I want to die.” He went on to say, “I apologize to his family, and I apologize to the public and am unsure of how I could ever present myself to them.”

He has also clarified misunderstandings by stating that the accident was not caused by him making an illegal U-turn or illegal left turn. He said, “I was slowly going towards the supermarket from an unprotected left turn lane [a lane that allows left turns but does not have a left turn signal], the motorcycle approached, and we collided.” He added that his wife was in the car with him, and she yelled but the motorcycle was already right in front of them.

He explained that it was not an accident that occurred because of unlawful circumstances. “I have been investigated by the police, and if it were unlawful then I wouldn’t have been able to leave the police station,” he said.

A source close to the family of the deceased reportedly stated that Jung Won Joong had not apologized or come to the funeral. Jung Won Joong said, “I went to the emergency room immediately after the accident, but they probably could not see me because they were preoccupied.” He stated that he thinks the family requires rest as the funeral procession took place today, but he plans to go to visit them tomorrow.

In regards to whether he’ll be continuing to film the drama “Beautiful Love, Wonderful Life,” Jung Won Joong stated that he does not know how he could keep appearing in the show, and he said he is still in a panic and is not sure what to do. He added that he understands why the network is concerned, as his character cannot be removed because of the development of the storyline, and he said it is a truly difficult problem.

A source from the drama spoke to Xportsnews news after the reports of the accident. They stated, “We are aware of the actor’s accident, and we are waiting for the results of the police investigation.”

In regards to his potential departure from the show, they stated that nothing has been decided yet.

Veteran actor Jung Won Joong was involved in a traffic accident with a motorcyclist who passed away from the collision.

On October 24, Gyeonggi Province’s Yangpyeong Police Station revealed that they booked Jung Won Joong without detention and are investigating him for suspicions of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents.

On October 22 at approximately 7 p.m. KST, Jung Won Joong’s car was turning left in front of a large supermarket when he hit a motorcycle that was coming from the opposite direction. The motorcyclist, aged 17, passed away as a result of the accident.

Ilgan Sports reports that the victim was heavily injured by the collision and was immediately taken to Yangpyeong Hospital, where he received emergency treatment. However, he suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away while the hospital was preparing to transfer him on a helicopter.

A police source stated, “Jung Won Joong is admitting to the fact that [the victim] has died as a result of the accident. We have a video of the accident. It wasn’t an intersection with traffic lights, but he violated the duties of safe driving.” The source added that they had checked to see if the actor was driving under the influence, but test results indicated that he was not drunk.

Artist Company stated, “It has been about a month since our contract with actor Jung Won Joong expired and we stopped working with him. We found out about this news through the press, so we cannot confirm the details of what happened. We express our deepest condolences to the victim who passed away from the accident.” Sports Seoul reports that Jung Won Joong is currently working without an agency.

Jung Won Joong is appearing in KBS2’s weekend drama “Beautiful Love, Wonderful Life” as Moon Joon Ik, a policeman with two sons and a daughter. According to a source from the drama industry, Jung Won Joong has informed the drama’s producers about his intention to step down from the show.
