Sunmi's Agency Sues 12 Individuals For Defamation And Malicious Comments

Sunmi has officially taken legal action against malicious comments.

On October 28, Sunmi’s agency MakeUs Entertainment released the following statement:

Hello, this is MakeUs Entertainment.

On October 24, 2019, MakeUs Entertainment filed complaints to the Songpa Police Station against 12 individuals who are in clear violation of the laws on defamation (Article 70 of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc.) and insult (Article 311 of the Criminal Act) by spreading false information about Sunmi.

On August 9, 2019, we revealed our plans to take legal action against those who defame the character and image of our label artist Sunmi by creating and spreading posts and comments that are malicious and utilizing baseless accusations that are false. We filed the first round of legal complaints through a legal representative based on the evidence we have gathered with help from Miya-ne (Sunmi’s official fandom name) fans and self-monitoring by the agency.

Our agency will pursue legal action through civil and criminal suits without making settlements nor showing leniency, and we plan to make sure that those who cause harm in the future will also pay the full price for their actions. Following the first round of complaints, we are currently preparing to file an additional round of complaints, and we will not only file complaints based on criminal acts, but also civil acts.

We express gratitude to all fans who show love and support for Sunmi, and our agency will continue to do our best to protect the rights of our artist. We hope that our efforts will lead to a more mature and sound Internet culture. Thank you.
