UP10TION's Lee Jin Hyuk Shares Ways His Life Changed After "Produce X 101"

UP10TION’s Lee Jin Hyuk talked about his newfound popularity, solo debut, UP10TION, and more!

On November 4, Lee Jin Hyuk made a solo debut with his mini album “S.O.L.” This is his first release since he gained a huge fan base while appearing on the Mnet survival show “Produce X 101.”

“I’m going to work hard with the mindset of a rookie,” said Lee Jin Hyuk at his showcase on November 4. “I prepared for this whenever I had time. I worked hard to meet the expectations of the many people who were looking forward to my solo debut.”

Lee Jin Hyuk went on to say, “I had no idea even four months ago that I’d be here right now. I didn’t expect I’d receive so much love. It’s really ‘Dreams Come True.’ I’m going to work hard so that I can achieve more. I think I need to continue to be humble.”

The title track of “S.O.L” is the hip hop track “I Like That,” and Lee Jin Hyuk took part in writing the lyrics. “I wanted to make a song that was easy to sing along to,” he said. “I included the meaning that I want to fly together with my fans.”

When asked about “Produce X 101,” Lee Jin Hyuk said, “My life completely changed. Even just the fact that I’m now able to work on my album as I’ve wanted to and also appear on variety shows is a difference in my life.” He added, “I really worked hard at a breathless pace and it was such a valuable time.”

Lee Jin Hyuk also shared what’s changed for him specifically after appearing on the show. “Before I went on ‘Produce X 101,’ I could use public transit sometimes like the subway and buses,” he said. “But now if I do that, people take photos of me and say they spotted me on the subway.”

He added that it’s also been amazing to be filming with people that he only previously saw on television. “Those are the times when it feels real,” he said.

Lee Jin Hyuk also mentioned his group UP10TION. “After ‘Produce X 101,’ they’d already formed as eight members so it would have been difficult for me to join the full group promotions,” he said. “The members and I are all doing well together. Kim Woo Seok and I are doing well in different places.”

He went on to say, “I went to an UP10TION concert recently too. I still feel a great affection for them. I hope you’ll know that even though we’re apart, we feel the same way.”

Finally, Lee Jin Hyuk said, “I’m so happy right now. If I look back on the past, I do feel an emptiness in a way but I think that I’m able to be who I am now because of the time that I spent working hard. There were many days then when it was very difficult and I had regrets, but now I don’t regret anything. I hope you’ll look kindly upon the path of solo artist Lee Jin Hyuk as I’ve made my debut as a solo artist.”
