Lee Jae Wook Discusses What Motivates Him To Act, Another

Lee Jae Wook is a rising star who debuted in tvN’s “Memories of the Alhambra” and appeared in tvN’s “Search: WWW” last year. His popularity peaked in MBC’s “Extraordinary You” after just one year.

Lee Jae Wook shared, “It’s been over a week since we completed filming for ‘Extraordinary You’ and the last episode aired. I really miss the staff and fellow actors. Baek Kyung from “Extraordinary You” is my most memorable character of 2019.”

There was a section in “Extraordinary You” that was set in the Goryeo Dynasty. When asked if it was his first time acting in a sageuk, Lee Jae Wook said, “Yes. In my mind, I always thought historical dramas were set in the Joseon Dynasty, but ‘Extraordinary You’ was set in the Goryeo Dynasty. It was different from what I am used to seeing, so it was very difficult. Acting in the historical tone was really difficult. I needed to act angry, but vocalizing in the historical tone was hard. I messed up my lines a lot. If I do another historical drama, I will make sure to be prepared.”

Lee Jae Wook shared that working with people his age made it easier to communicate on set. He said, “The energy on set was consistently high. That made it comfortable. There were no drawbacks.”

He continued to share his experience working with Kim Hye Yoon. He said, “I personally think our personalities matched well. She is someone with high energy. Hye Yoon noona (older sister) was in charge of creating an energetic set. Hye Yoon noona and I worked well together. When we came up with ideas, we would discuss it with the director, and he would approve it.”

When asked if there’s another role in the drama that he would like to play, he answered, “I would really like to play Do Hwa (Jung Gun Joo). He is the mood maker with a friendly personality. As an actor, I really want to play a character like him.”

Lee Jae Wook shared, “Acting is really fun, and I’m satisfied. At the same time, it’s very difficult and stressful, but when I’m done with a project, I feel excited and happy. After working hard on a project, I get excited when we receive recognition and approval.”

Lee Jae Wook laughed at online comments that jokingly talked about wanting to squeeze in between the wrinkles caused by Baek Kyung’s knitted brows. “Whenever I hear it, it feels strange. In my next project, ‘I’ll Go to You When the Weather Is Nice’ (literal title), I won’t be frowning. Viewers will have to be ready to squeeze in between somewhere else.”

Lee Jae Wook is set to appear in JTBC’s new drama, “I’ll Go to You When the Weather Is Nice,” next year.
