BTS Fans Turn Seoul's Cheonggyecheon Purple For V's Birthday

BTS fans are celebrating V‘s birthday in an especially memorable way this year!

V will turn 25 years old (by Korean reckoning) on December 30, and one of his fan bases has lit up a part of Seoul in purple in honor of his special day. The word “purple” has held a special meaning for BTS and ARMY ever since V redefined the color as meaning “to trust and love” during the group’s third “Muster” fan meeting.

As part of the 2019 Seoul Christmas Festival, a special zone entitled the “Purple V Zone” has been set up for V around Cheonggyecheon, a modern public recreation space centered on a stream running through downtown Seoul. For V’s birthday celebration, the area has been adorned with purple lights, “V” shapes, and representations of V.

V is the first celebrity to have an event dedicated to him at Cheonggyecheon. His Chinese fanbase was able to put on this event after sponsoring the Christmas Festival project by the city of Seoul, and many fans have been sharing photos from the beautifully decorated space.

Fans have also been holding other special events for V’s birthday, including 500,000 commemorative boarding passes for Jin Air, screen ads on Lines 1 to 9 of the Seoul subway, and in-flight ads on Asiana Airlines planes all over the world.

The 2019 Seoul Christmas Festival takes place from December 13 to January 1.
