Lawyer Who First Reported Assault Allegations Against Kim Gun Mo Reportedly Manipulated Charges In The Past

Lawyer Kang Yong Suk reportedly manipulated charges regarding a past assault case involving famous blogger “Dodomam,” or Kim Mi Na.

Through his YouTube account in early December, Kang Yong Suk made the initial sexual assault accusations against Kim Gun Mo, which the lawyer said was a story he heard directly from the victim herself.

On February 4, Dispatch revealed conversations between Kang Yong Suk and Kim Mi Na, discussing the latter’s assault case. According to Dispatch, in 2015, Kim Mi Na was drinking with “A” at a karaoke in Sinsa, a neighborhood in Gangnam. While drinking, they got into an argument, which developed into a fight due to a third party, at which time “A” hit Kim Mi Na with a bottle.

As a result, Kim Mi Na sustained an injury that would take two weeks to heal. However, in November of that year, according to the report, Kang Yong Suk became involved in the case, adding a rape accusation in order to increase the settlement cost. He explained to Kim Mi Na, “You can’t receive 100 million won (approximately $84,400) just for your injuries. If we go with sexual assault, he’ll be arrested as soon as we file our complaint.” He added, “I’ll make you a lot of money. Rape injuries are more powerful than murder.”

Despite this, “A” firmly denied to agree to a settlement. However, Kang Yong Suk did not stop there and proceeded to manipulate the complaint to include “indecent assault.”

As the official police investigation began, Kang Yong Suk urged Kim Mi Na to get investigated at a one-stop service center, which he explained was where sexual assault victims are separately investigated by policewomen. He even encouraged her to utilize the press for her case.

In April 2016, seven detectives of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office decided not to indict “A,” agreeing that the indecent assault allegations were false. However, he was prosecuted for charges of special injury.
