Watch: Yoo Seung Ho And Lee Se Young Describe Their Characters + Things To Look Out For In Upcoming Thriller “Memorist”
The cast of “Memorist” showed off their great teamwork at a script reading!
Based on a popular webtoon of the same name, this upcoming mystery thriller is about a detective named Dong Baek who has supernatural powers (played by Yoo Seung Ho) and a genius profiler named Han Sun Mi (played by Lee Se Young) as they join forces to hunt down an evil serial killer. Unlike many fictional heroes who hide their identities, Dong Baek makes his powers known to the world as he bravely fights crime and evil.
In the video, the leads got up to greet the staff and cast in the room. With a respectful bow, Yoo Seung Ho said, “I’ll work hard,” which was followed by Lee Se Young’s greeting.
Yoo Seung Ho introduced his character to viewers in an interview. “I’ll portray Dong Baek who has supernatural powers,” he began. “He only uses his supernatural powers for justice.” This is proven through some of the lines he read during the script reading where he announces that he won’t use his powers for the benefit of any specific nation including his own.
The actor added, “He’s action-driven, refreshing, and a character that fits well with the times.”
Lee Se Young said about her own character, “She’s a genius profiler who’s the youngest person to ever earn the title of senior superintendent at the age of 30. She’s a very cold person, but she’s also the most passionate about catching the criminal.” The actress continued, “It’s hard to know what she’s thinking and she has unique charms.”
The leads described some points to watch out for in the drama. Yoo Seung Ho pointed out the charming characters who feel as if they might exist in reality, while Lee Se Young stated that the drama is based on a webtoon she enjoyed reading. Yoo Seung Ho added that the series will deliver a refreshing story about catching criminals, and the clip gave viewers a peek at the bickering chemistry between the genius profiler and the supernatural detective.
“Memorist” also boasts of a talented cast of supporting actors including Jo Sung Ha, Go Chang Suk, Yoon Ji On, Jun Hyosung, and Kim Seo Kyung who delivered some humorous moments between Dong Baek and his co-workers. The script reading ended on a high note with applause and a group photo.
At the end of the clip, Lee Se Young accidentally told viewers that the drama would be premiering in 2019. A staff member reminded her it’s 2020, and she tried again with a laugh, saying, “‘Memorist,’ which will take over your living rooms, will premiere in March. Coming soon!”
Yoo Seung Ho concluded, “I think it’s going to be a really fun, well-made drama. I’m going to be portraying a new kind of character, so I hope you’ll look forward to it.” The two actors told viewers, “Please give lots of love and interest to ‘Memorist.'”
“Memorist” premieres on March 11 at 10:50 p.m. KST. Check out the clip below:
