“Parasite” Makes History With 4 Wins At 92nd Academy Awards Including Best Picture

The 92nd Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles on February 9 (local time) and Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” is coming home with four historic wins.

“Parasite” had been nominated for six awards, including Best Picture, Original Screenplay, Directing, Film Editing, Production Design, and International Feature Film. It made history as the first-ever Korean film to receive a nomination for Best Picture, and Bong Joon Ho the first-ever Korean director to receive an Oscar nomination.

Of the six nominations, “Parasite” walked home with four, Original Screenplay, International Feature Film, Directing, and most notably, Best Picture, the highest accolade of the night. This is the first time in the history of the Academy Awards since the awards ceremony began 92 years ago that a non-English language film has won Best Picture.

“Parasite” now also holds the title of being the first Korean film to ever win at the Academy Awards, and the first film to ever win Best Picture and International Feature Film together. Bong Joon Ho is also the second filmmaker of Asian descent to win the Directing award following Ang Lee, and “Parasite” is the sixth non-English language film to win Original Screenplay, and the first Asian-language film to do so.

The cast and crew of “Parasite” were also in attendance to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Congratulations to “Parasite”!
