Longtime Boy Group Member And All-Around Entertainer Takes Everyone By Surprise On “The King Of Mask Singer”
The identity of Generation X on MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer” has been revealed to be a veteran idol and all-around entertainer!
On the February 16 episode of the show, four semi-finalists battled it out for the chance to compete against Sonorous 18, the four-time winner and reigning king. In Round 3, Generation X went up against Brachiosaurus.
Brachiosaurus sang Choi Yong Joon’s “Perhaps that was Love,” while Generation X sang Seo Taiji and Boys’ “I Know.” Sonorous 18 commented, “[Brachiosaurus] showed us a hopeful and refreshing energy. I saw some traces of myself in Generation X. When he turned his back during the song as part of the performance, I thought that was really cool. I should work on my own performance aspect. I liked his energy.”
Panelists Yoo Young Suk and Kim Tae Won suspected that Generation X was formerly a member of a band, possibly a metal band.
The panelists were all shocked at the reveal and Shin Bong Sun said, “No one even mentioned his name [as part of our guesses].” Kim Heechul said, “I think everyone here is unfamiliar with my singing voice. I was really shy about my voice when it comes to singing.”
He named his groupmate Kyuhyun as the reason that he decided to appear on the show. “Kyuhyun recently did really well on this show,” he said. “He recommended the experience to me. He’s someone who is always complimenting my singing. I wanted to leave behind a record of myself singing a song that I liked.”
Kim Heechul mentioned that he does not often stand on stage to perform anymore due to his car accident and said, “I was really happy in the moment I took off my mask. Thank you for letting me experience that happiness again.”
