KARD Talks About Taking On New Genre Challenges + J.Seph Mentions Health Scare During World Tour

On February 25, KARD made a guest appearance on the MBC FM4U radio show “Two O’Clock Date with Muzie and Ahn Young Mi.”

During the show, KARD talked about how they tend to take on “strong” genres. BM said, “Moombahton is a genre that has its roots in South America and Africa. The beat is different from other genres, so it’s more exciting. It makes people move. It’s good to dance to and you can create many different emotions within moombahton.”

When asked about their popularity in South America, Somin said, “When we first released ‘Oh NaNa,’ there weren’t that many singers performing moombahton. It’s a deeper version of the dance hall genre, so I think that the South American fans felt it was something new.”

While talking about the group’s international popularity, J.Seph mentioned a health scare that had happened to him on their world tour. He said, “The altitude in Bolivia is very high. I heard that it could be dangerous. The moment I got off the plane, I felt really dizzy. It was hard to breathe. It was so rough that I thought about just passing out. But I was too embarrassed to faint, so I held myself together.”

Jiwoo added, “When we went to another city, it was like we were flying.”

Apart from moombahton, KARD said they wanted to try diverse genres like R&B, hip-hop, and jazz. J.Seph mentioned trot music and said, “I can’t sing it very well but I like it.”

When asked about the difficulties of promoting as a co-ed group, J.Seph said, “They said it was a niche market, but I found it hard to think past the stereotypes. I thought, ‘Why do I have to do that?’ and ‘Why me?’ I was scared at first, but it turned into excitement, and now I’m really happy.”

Somin added, “I thought it didn’t make any sense at all [at first], but now I’m happy that a co-ed group can go on world tours.”

KARD most recently made a comeback on February 12 with “RED MOON.”
