“Backstreet Rookie” is based on a popular webtoon and tells the story of convenience store owner Choi Dae Hyun (Ji Chang Wook) and part-time employee Jung Saet Byul (Kim Yoo Jung).
The drama will be helmed by Lee Myung Woo, the producing director (PD) behind the 2019 smash hit “The Fiery Priest,” which was also SBS’s first Friday-Saturday drama. This time, PD Lee Myung Woo is expected to light up Fridays and Saturdays with a refreshing romantic comedy.
Viewers have been highly anticipating the drama since Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung were confirmed to take on the two lead roles. Meanwhile, Ji Chang Wook will play Choi Dae Hyun, who pretends to be a prickly person but is actually very soft on the inside. Currently, LABOUM‘s Solbin is also in talks to star as Jung Eun Byul, Jung Saet Byul’s younger sister.
The production team shared, “The actors and producer, with their acting skills and ability to create successful works, have met to create the perfect match. Set in the convenience store, which we can easily see in our day to day lives, a humanistic romance story of the youth will unfold. Please show lots of excitement and interest for ‘Backstreet Rookie’ until the well-made drama comes to your TV screen.”
The upcoming drama will be produced by TAEWON Entertainment, which produced the films “Battle of Incheon” and “The Battle of Jangsari” and the dramas “Iris” and “Criminal Minds.”
