Lee Joo Young Explains Why Her 'Itaewon Class' Character Had A Hairstyle Change

Actress Lee Joo Young talked about changing her look for her “Itaewon Class” character!

On March 27, the actress chatted with fans through a broadcast on Naver’s V Live and talked about filming the JTBC drama “Itaewon Class.”

“All the actors were peers,” she said. “Every single one of us got along well, so we enjoyed filming and there are a lot of fun stories.”

She went on to say, “Kim Da Mi, who played Jo Yi Seo, is bad at holding in her laughter. Kwon Na Ra was like that too. I tend to be good at holding in my laughter.”

In the drama, Lee Joo Young took the role of Ma Hyun Yi, the chef at the pub Dan Bam, which is run by Park Seo Joon‘s character. Lee Joo Young started out the series with silver hair, and she later on changed to dark hair. In her V Live broadcast, she shared the story behind her hairstyles for the show.

“I bleached my hair five times,” she said. “They said that depending on the person’s hair condition, usually they just bleach hair three times. In my case, my hair is strong so I got the silver hair after bleaching it five times and dying it twice.”

“I kept touching up the roots now and then as well,” she added. “After we filmed for a while, there was a scene where Yi Seo said, ‘You look better with black hair.’ The writer put that scene in because he was thinking about the state of my hair.”

Lee Joo Young also recently talked about her approach to playing a transgender character in the drama.
