Lee Chi Hoon's Mother Addresses Rumors And Denies He Passed Away From COVID-19
The mother of Lee Chi Hoon, an “Ulzzang Generation” member and broadcast jockey who passed away on March 19, has opened up to address rumors surrounding her son’s passing.
On March 30, his mother took to his social media account to share the timeline of her son’s health during the week leading up to his death. Ahead of the timeline, she denied rumors that her son was a member of the Shincheonji, a fundamentalist sect of Christianity in Korea which has been reported as largely responsible for the outbreak of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) in Daegu, or that her son had died as a result of COVID-19.
She shared things she had to say repeatedly to people about her son such as, “He was not a member of Shincheonji. He didn’t travel overseas. He never went to Daegu. He left the house approximately two times in the past month, and the last time he left the house was two weeks ago for a brief moment. His movements never overlapped with that of any confirmed patient. My son did not have COVID-19. The proof I have is that I, who was with him 24 hours a day, am completely free from the virus.”
She continued, “I’ve had to say these words so many times that just thinking about them makes my body shake with fear. It hurts so much to talk about the heartbreaking week my son had [leading up to his passing], especially to his acquaintances who ask and want to know what happened, so I’m sharing it here.”
Lee Chi Hoon’s mother explained that on March 10, her son was diagnosed with lymphadenitis by an otolaryngologist. On March 14, he started to feel aches in his body so he was tested for influenza and they scheduled a visit to the doctor on the following Monday to get an intravenous injection. She added, “On March 17, my son visited a health center to be tested for COVID-19. On the way home, his body temperature fell and he lost focus in his eyes. Out of fear, we called for 911 emergency services.”
She stated, “My son was hospitalized in an isolated room and the doctors diagnosed him with viral encephalitis. The health center let us know on March 18 that he had tested negative for COVID-19, and he was moved to the regular emergency center room, but he passed away on March 19.”
She ended her statement by saying, “His cause of death has been recorded as ‘encephalitis caused by septicemia.’ I don’t know. Whether this is a dream or real life, or maybe I’m under hypnosis, I just hope this is a dream that I can quickly wake up from.”
We send our deepest condolences to Lee Chi Hoon’s family.
