“How To Buy A Friend” Cast Shows Off Their Real-Life Friendships Behind The Scenes

KBS 2TV’s upcoming drama “How to Buy a Friend” has shared an adorable new glimpse of the real-life chemistry between its stars!

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, “How to Buy a Friend” will tell the story of Park Chan Hong, an ordinary high school student who is average in every way (played by Lee Shin Young), and his famous classmate Heo Don Hyuk, who has become a legend at their school for his fighting skills (played by Shin Seung Ho). After a poem written by Park Chan Hong catches Heo Don Hyuk’s eye, the two strike up an unusual “contract friendship.”

Former I.O.I member Kim So Hye will be playing the role of Uhm Se Yoon, the most popular girl in school and a star student who is always at the head of their class, while former Tiny-G member Min Dohee will play Uhm Se Yoon’s best friend Choi Mi Ra.

On April 4, the upcoming drama released a set of behind-the-scenes photos that capture just how well its cast members get along when the cameras aren’t rolling. In the drama, Lee Shin Young’s and Shin Seung Ho’s characters only become friends on paper because they need certain things from each other, but in real life, the two actors have actually become true friends. Not only do the co-stars happily snap photos together on their phones and discuss their scenes at length off-camera, but they even affectionately fix each other’s hair between takes.

Meanwhile, even though Kim So Hye’s character in the drama is intimidating and hard-to-approach, the star is a cheerful and friendly presence on set. Not only has she struck up real-life friendships with her co-stars Min Dohee and Jo Yi Hyun, but she’s even managed to break the ice with actor Kim In Kwon, who plays her teacher in the show.

The producers of “How to Buy a Friend” commented, “It feels like everyone on set has gone back to their grade school days, because all of the cast members are building warm and delightful friendships with one another. The chemistry that comes from their real-life friendships can be seen throughout the drama. We hope that the viewers will be able to relate to and immerse themselves in the story.”

“How to Buy a Friend” premieres on April 6 at 10 p.m. KST and will be available with English subtitles on Viki.
