CJ ENM Discussing Plans To Host KCON Online

KCON may be happening online this year!

According to a report from Sports Chosun, KCON will be taking place online in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Although nothing has been confirmed regarding the date, location, and method of broadcast, CJ ENM is reportedly working with various entertainment agencies in order to feature many artists and to host the event in June.

On May 13, KCON USA also uploaded a mysterious post hinting that KCON 2020 will be taking place.

Following the report, source from CJ ENM shared with Newsen, “We are reviewing the possibility of an online KCON.” CJ ENM will officially announce the dates once they are confirmed.

KCON is an annual convention and music festival that includes concerts featuring performances by popular K-pop artists. The event introduces Korean drama, fashion, beauty, food, and other cultural aspects abroad. KCON began in 2012 and has gathered a total of 1.1 million attendees since then.

Originally, the dates and locations for KCON 2020 were announced with KCON 2020 Japan kickstarting the event in April. Furthermore, CJ ENM planned to host KCON 2020 Russia with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups on May 23 in order to commemorate the 30th anniversary of establishing Korea-Russia diplomatic relations.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KCON 2020 Japan was postponed after revealing the full lineup, and KCON USA recently announced their decision to cancel KCON 2020 NY. KCON 2020 Russia was also postponed to July with an alternative plan of hosting the concert in September in case concerns surrounding COVID-19 continued to persist.
