Choi Jong Hoon Takes Case To Supreme Court As He Files Appeal Over Prison Sentence

Choi Jong Hoon has now submitted an appeal against his prison sentence over charges of aggravated rape.

The former FTISLAND member had originally received a five-year prison sentence for charges including aggravated rape (refers to rape that involves two or more perpetrators), while Jung Joon Young had been charged initially with six years in prison. The defendants and prosecution both appealed this ruling, and so new trials began.

On the second trial on May 12, the court stated, “The fact that Choi Jong Hoon reached an agreement with the victim has greatly affected his sentencing. However, he continues to deny the charges and lacks sincere self-reflection.” However, they considered the fact that he had reached an agreement with the victim, and his prison sentence was reduced to two years and six months.

On the other hand, Jung Joon Young had not submitted a written agreement with the victim, and his sentence was reduced to five years. The day after the trial, Jung Joon Young submitted an appeal, and his lawyer explained the reason behind their decision. The prosecution submitted an appeal soon after the trial.

On May 18, Choi Jong Hoon’s lawyer also filed an appeal to the Seoul High Court to object to the sentence he received in the appeal trial.

Choi Jong Hoon’s case, as with Jung Joon Young’s case, will now be heading to the Supreme Court.
