6-Time "The King Of Mask Singer" Champion Shares His Future Plans After Being Unmasked

On the May 24 episode of MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer,” a group of challengers faced off against “Chow Yun Fat” in his quest for his seventh win.

The first match-up of Round 2 was between Don Quixote and Wife’s Temptation, with Wife’s Temptation moving on to Round 3. The second match-up was between Picture Diary and Shield, with Shield moving on to Round 3.

In Round 3, Shield and Wife’s Temptation faced off to see who would get to challenge champion Chow Yun Fat. Shield won and moved on to the next round, while Wife’s Temptation unmasked to reveal her identity.

Before the final round, emcee Kim Sung Joo said, “The only champions who have won more than seven consecutive times are Ha Hyun Woo and Son Seung Yeon. Reaching seven wins is difficult.”

In the final round, Chow Yun Fat sang Boohwal’s “Lonely Night,” which was recently remade by Kwon Jin Ah for the “Hospital Playlist” OST.

In the end, Shield became the new champion through a close vote, 11 votes to Chow Yun Fat’s 10. Chow Yun Fat unmasked himself to reveal his identity as WINNER’s leader, main vocalist, and maknae Kang Seung Yoon.

Kang Seung Yoon said, “I never thought I would become the champion. Every time I won, it felt like a miracle. I always prepared with a grateful heart. I decided to appear on the show to promote our album before our members left for military service. I didn’t know that I would continue to appear until after they’d left.”

Kang Seung Yoon previously met Kim Sung Joo when he was a contestant on “Superstar K 2.” Kang Seung Yoon said, “It’s been 10 years since then. After becoming a champion on ‘The King of Mask Singer,’ I’ve gained more confidence in my music. In September, I will be filming a drama at MBC [the upcoming drama ‘Kairos’]. I intend to make a transformation as an actor and I have plans to release a solo album too. Please look forward to it.”

On Instagram, Kang Seung Yoon wrote, “My sincere thanks to everyone who sent their love to Chow Yun Fat! It made me so happy to give people even a little bit of strength through my voice for a period of time! There were times when the crown was heavy and I was tired, but I was able to gain strength from the support of the viewers. Thank you very much! To all the production staff on ‘The King of Mask Singer,’ who help create beautiful performances behind-the-scenes! To the band and backup singers who helped my songs shine! To the panelists who said such kind things! I sincerely thank every one of you! It’s time for Chow Yun Fat to say goodbye, but I will return even better as WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon.
