TWICE Opens Up About Promoting As 9 Again, Goals For 2020, Secret To Success, And More

The members of TWICE recently sat down for an interview where they opened up about Mina’s return, goals for 2020, handling public expectations and their own desire for change, and more.

TWICE was asked if there’s anything they hope for more and more with the passing of time, and Nayeon said, “I want to keep feeling excited about the work I do. I want to keep this feeling for a long time, and I hope everything will always be fun.” Sana said, “I’ve spent a long time with fans, our members, and the staff, and I want to be with them for even longer. There’s a saying that nothing is forever, but I want to stay with these people forever,” and Jihyo said, “I want us to be healthy. I hope everyone will continue to be healthy in both body and mind.” Chaeyoung replied, “I keep hoping for newer concept and newer stages,” and Tzuyu said, “I hope we can be a group that continues to grow.”

When asked if they had any personal wishes to add, Jeongyeon said, “I want to become even prettier,” while Momo said, “I want to do a photo shoot with my dog.” Mina said she hopes for more time to enjoy peaceful moments and Sana laughed and said, “I dye my hair a lot because I want to show something new with each comeback, so my hair is quite damaged. I wish I could have hair that doesn’t get managed no matter how much you bleach it,” before adding, “We do so many things as TWICE that I find it hard to remember many moments that pass. I wish I could remember all of them.”

The members also opened up about Mina’s return to the group, as this was her first comeback since going on hiatus to take care of her health in July 2019. Jihyo said, “Most of all, I’m just so happy. Mina showed great courage to be with us again, and that makes me happy. I’m happy we’re able to return as nine to our fans again.” Chaeyoung added, “Whenever times get tough, the people we gain the most strength from is each other, and I’m so, so grateful to Mina for being so courageous. There were eight of us in our last comeback, and we really felt her empty space. I’m so happy all nine of us get to fill the stage this time,” and Tzuyu said, “I’m grateful to Mina for being so brave. I think TWICE shines the brightest when all nine of us are together. All of us shine brighter when we’re together. I’m so happy we get to share that light with fans and the public.”

When asked if they find it hard to choose between doing what the public would want to see and taking on new changes, Jihyo said, “I think many people like our cute and lovely side. But we want to keep showing something new so we’ve been making changes since last year. We know our strengths, so we’re trying to mix cuteness and powerfulness together.” On the pressure of living up to the public’s expectations, Nayeon candidly replied, “In the past, I’d focus on results and I did feel a sense of pressure. But the more albums we release, the more I realize that the process is more important. As long as we have fun and enjoy the process of making an album, the results don’t worry me anymore and I feel a greater sense of satisfaction.”

TWICE has excelled in all fields, whether it’s album sales, music streaming, or YouTube views, and Sana expressed that she believes how the close the members are is their greatest strength. She said, “Because we’re close, we naturally create a bright and healthy atmosphere, and I think that’s what fans like about us.” Dahyun chose the relationship between TWICE and ONCE as their secret to success and said, “There’s so much that goes into preparing a new album, but it comes so naturally to us because we’re on the same wavelength, and I think our fans feel that and love that about us. I think that’s why we’re able to get good results. Even when things get rough, TWICE and ONCE can lean on each other, and that gives us so much strength.”

TWICE has been greeting fans through online content as it is hard to meet fans face to face, and Momo said a video idea she has is for them to film all the non-Korean members getting their driver’s licenses, while Chaeyoung said she’d like to film a vlog to give fans a peek into her daily life. The members also shared small details about their lives these days, with Jeongyeon revealing that she’s gotten hooked on a card game with Jihyo and Mina. Mina said she likes to hear the sound of rain falling at night, so she falls asleep listening to sounds of rainfall or thunder.

Finally, TWICE was asked if they had any goals for 2020, and the members all expressed their hopes to meet fans and for everyone to be healthy. Jeongyeon added, “We haven’t been able to meet ONCEs very often, and I hope we’re able to! I also hope we can film more commercials together this year.” Other goals included Sana sharing her hopes to do an individual photo shoot this year while Chaeyoung said her goal is to get her driver’s license.
