Kim Myung Soo Considering Offer To Lead New Historical Drama

Kim Myung Soo may return with a historical drama!

On June 10, a source from the drama industry shared to Ilgan Sports, “L (Kim Myung Soo) will take on the main role in the drama  ‘New Secret Royal Inspector’ (literal title).”

However, a source from Management Esang shared to Sports Donga, “He is not confirmed. ‘New Secret Royal Inspector’ is one of the projects he is reviewing.”

“New Secret Royal Inspector” tells the story of the secret royal inspector, a position unique to the Joseon Dynasty. Secret royal inspectors were government officials who were specially appointed by the king and dispatched incognito to local provinces to hear the stories of the people and monitor officials for corruption. They provided a voice to the public and became the king’s ears, but they could not reveal their true selves. The heroic achievements of secret royal inspectors are a close representation of the justice sought by many people of the modern day.

Kim Myung Soo was reportedly offered the role of Sung Yi Gyeom, a secret royal inspector and Junior Sixth Counselor of Hongmungwan. By day, he lives the ordinary life of a bureaucrat, doing his job of organizing Hongmungwan’s library. By night, he secretly gambles with other officials and turns into a hoodwinker. Though he appears to be a simple libertine who frequents the kisaeng (Joseon Dynasty courtesan) house whenever he has some extra money in his hands, he has not always led this kind of life. When he first entered the palace, he was a promising individual who had placed first place in the state examination. But as time passed, he began to become more interested in martial arts than his studies.

The drama will be directed by Kim Jung Min and written by Park Sung Hoon and Kang Min Sun.
