SM Entertainment To Partner With Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra

SM Entertainment has signed a partnership with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra!

On June 12, the Seoul Philharmonic announced that they had signed a business agreement with SM Entertainment two days prior. Their first joint project will be for the Seoul Philharmonic to record orchestral versions of popular K-pop songs. Instead of a small-scale chamber orchestra, the recordings will take place with the full orchestra. Music director Osmo Vänskä will not be participating in this project.

These songs will be released through SM’s digital music platform, SM Station, next month. The exact details of the release remain to be determined.

This is the first time that the Seoul Philharmonic has recorded K-pop songs since its foundation. A representative of the orchestra stated, “We will showcase classical music content through an active interchange with SM Entertainment.”

SM is also expanding its own classical music production as a record label. Beginning with this partnership with the Seoul Philharmonic, SM intends to launch a classical music label called “SM Classic.” This label will help domestic classical musicians release albums and perform concerts.
