Bang Si Hyuk And Jimmy Jeong Make Billboard's 2020 Indie Power Players List

Big Hit Entertainment’s Bang Si Hyuk and JYP Entertainment’s Jimmy Jeong have made Billboard’s 2020 Indie Power Players list!

The 2020 Indie Power Players List highlights individuals working around the world in music distribution and labels aside from the three major U.S. labels Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group. This year, Bang Si Hyuk and Jimmy Jeong were highlighted for their contributions alongside others such as Disney Music Group’s president Ken Bunt and Big Machine Label Group founder and CEO Scott Borchetta.

Bang Si Hyuk, the CEO and executive producer of Big Hit Entertainment, was applauded for his agency’s involvement with the growth of BTS. The agency is reported to have secured a revenue of $507.9 million in 2019, which is said to be a 95 percent increase from the yet unaudited 2018 figures. Big Hit Entertainment’s continued expansion into other areas was also cited, using online platform WeVerse as an example. Bang Si Hyuk is quoted as saying, “We achieved such growth without relying on preexisting systems. Solely focusing on content and fans and our vision — this is the ‘independence’ and driving force of Big Hit.”

Jimmy Jeong was also highlighted as the CEO of JYP Entertainment. It was mentioned how JYP Entertainment has been expanding the global outreach of its artists, including a partnership with The Orchard since early 2019 that has helped with the worldwide distribution for JYP artists such as GOT7, DAY6, TWICE, Stray Kids, and ITZY. It is also noted, “Jeong struck a strategic alliance with Republic Records for the female K-pop group TWICE, announced in February, which follows the troupe’s arena-filling U.S. tour in 2019.”

Congratulations to Bang Si Hyuk and Jimmy Jeong!
