Watch: MONSTA X's Shownu Talks About His Days As Competitive Swimmer + Shows Off Dance Skills With Joohoney

MONSTA X’s Shownu talked about his past as a competitive swimmer on JTBC’s “Ask Us Anything”!

On the July 11 episode of “Ask Us Anything,” the guests on the show were Block B’s Zico, Sunmi, and MONSTA X’s Shownu and Joohoney.

The two MONSTA X members hilariously showed off their close friendship when the cast asked Joohoney, “They say you don’t watch any of Shownu’s broadcasts, is that true?” Joohoney answered, “That’s right. It’s not that we don’t get along, but Shownu is just too popular.”

Beside him, Shownu chimed in, “Joohoney always tells me, ‘You are too popular.’ But we’re the same.” He then made the cast burst into laughter by adding, “We’re only sharing this because we’re on TV.”

Shownu and Joohoney also performed an impressive dance to “Sicko Mode (Skrillex Remix)” by Travis Scott.

Later, during the quiz segment of the show, Shownu asked the cast, “When I was a competitive swimmer in elementary school, I encountered a really ridiculous situation. What was it?”

Amidst many wrong answers, Sunmi hilariously guessed, “While you were swimming, you pooped.” To help out the cast, Shownu shared as a hint, “My parents made me something to recharge my energy. It was a healthy dish made from seafood. Seo Jang Hoon correctly guessed the food to be eel, and Shownu added, “I ate way too much eel extract. What’s a main constituent of eel?”

After another set of incorrect guesses centered around eel grease, Shownu hinted, “Where did the [eel] grease get caught?” Seo Jang Hoon ultimately got the right answer, shouting, “Your neck!”

Shownu then explained, “I had grease stuck in the skin on my neck. I used to carry around big containers and eat eel extract out of them.”

Lee Soo Geun asked Shownu, “Why did you only swim until the first year of middle school?” Shownu replied, “My dad told me, ‘You’re good as long as you can survive in water,'” explaining that his dad had originally put him in swimming classes to learn the sport as a means of survival, but that he had ended up swimming competitively. He added, “I did work really hard back then, but my dad said that he thought it would become too hard [if I continued].”
