Singer-Songwriter Under Investigation For Suspicions Of Illegal Filming

Singer-songwriter The Film (Hwang Kyung Seok) is under investigation for suspicions of illegally filming women and spreading the footage.

According to the Seoul Gwangjin Police Station, The Film is suspected of having illegally filmed multiple women’s bodies using hidden camera devices as recently as the beginning of this year.

Bae Geun Jo, the lawyer who initially brought forth the accusations, received an anonymous tip-off in April before bringing the case to the police in May. He noted that The Film admitted to the charges of illegal filming, but is currently denying the charges of distributing illegally-taken footage. According to Bae Geun Jo, The Film claims that his cloud storage account was hacked after he had uploaded the illegally-taken footage there.

After the police investigation began, The Film deleted his account from a portal website and erased his pictures and other online records in order to hide his information. In June, he attempted to settle with the victims, but they refused his settlement. Bae Geun Jo commented, “His punishment will depend on the charges brought forth by the prosecution. In the case of a summary indictment, he will be charged with a fine. However, if his case goes to trial, he could face imprisonment.”

In a phone call with reporters from SBS funE a few months prior, The Film confessed, “I know that I took part in illegal activities, and I really regret it. At the beginning of this year I started a family and also made donations in order to live a life of self-reflection.”

The Film made his debut in 2004 and has around 120 songs under his belt as a singer-songwriter. In addition to creating background tracks for dramas and variety shows, he also worked with artists such as Tei, g.o.d’s Danny Ahn, and Kim Yeon Woo. He is also founder and CEO of the label Seattle Music.
