Watch: James Lee Returns With Heartbreaking MV For “Liar”

James Lee has released a haunting new music video for his self-composed song “Liar”!

Last month, the former Royal Pirates member dropped his highly-anticipated sophomore EP “Castles,” marking his first physical release in almost two years—and on August 21 local time, he followed it up with the official music video for “Liar,” a 2020 remastered version of which was included as one of the tracks on the album.

A gorgeous, melancholy song about a difficult breakup, “Liar” holds special meaning for James Lee because of its blend of musical styles. Referring to his devastating freak accident in 2015, which severed his hand and left him permanently unable to play the bass, the singer-songwriter commented, “This song is special, because it blends the style I loved writing before my accident with the music I’ve embraced as a producer.”

As for the new music video, which puts the spotlight on the song’s plaintive melody and heart-wrenching lyrics, James Lee described it as a film that “highlights the intricacies of a breakup laced with disbelief and regret.”
