BoA, Park Hae Jin, NCT 127, WJSN, ASTRO's Cha Eun Woo, And More Win Awards At 2020 Newsis K-Expo

BoA, Park Hae Jin, NCT 127, WJSN, ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo, and more were recognized at the 2020 Newsis K-Expo!

The annual ceremony was held on August 26 in Seoul and it is sponsored by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy; the Korea Communications Commission; the Korea Creative Content Agency; and more.

BoA won the Hallyu Culture Daesang – Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Award. Hallyu is a term which means the “Korean wave,” referring to the spread of interest in South Korean pop culture around the world.

In her acceptance speech, BoA said, “I’m thankful to be receiving such a meaningful award on my first day starting anew after my 20th debut anniversary. I’m looking forward to 10 — even 20 — years into the future. The status of K-pop is increasing day by day, and it’s becoming a music industry that the whole world is paying attention to. I hope that I can give hope and strength to people around the world with surprising music and performances.”

BoA also took to her Instagram to say, “Thank you.”

Meanwhile, actor Park Hae Jin took home the Hallyu Culture Daesang – Seoul Mayor Award.

He said, “I think everyone is having a hard time these days. It’s a time where we must all still be careful. I hope we can go back to our daily lives as soon as possible once the COVID-19 pandemic ends. Stay strong, everyone.”

The National Assembly’s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee Award went to NCT 127 and the group Forestella.

NCT 127’s Johnny and Jungwoo said, “Thank you so much for such a great award. We thank you for receiving our music and performances so well. We’ll become an impressive group in the name of Hallyu.”

They continued, “We thank our NCTzen [NCT’s fandom name] from all around the world. Please look forward to an improved version of us.”

ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo received the Seoul Tourism Foundation Award, and he commented, “Thank you for such a valuable and amazing award. I will become someone who works hard to contribute to the development of Seoul’s tourism culture, K-pop, and Korean dramas.”

On Twitter, he wrote, “I received an amazing award today. I’m always thankful for Aroha [ASTRO’s fandom name]. Great job today! Good night.”

Starship Entertainment was given the Korea Creative Content Agency Award. The company’s group WJSN was also recognized, winning the Next Generation Hallyu Star Award.

WJSN said, “It’s an honor to be receiving an award alongside our senior BoA. We also thank our Ujung [WJSN’s fandom name]. Let’s stay strong during these hard times due to COVID-19. Thank you.”

On Instagram, the group wrote, “Thanks so much to our Ujung for sending us all your love and support so that we can share such great news together.”

Singers Kim Hee Jae, Lee Min Hyuk, and Choi Ye Geun took home the Next Generation Hallyu Star Award as well.
