Melon Music Awards Denies Reports That This Year's Ceremony Will Be Cancelled

Melon has issued an official response to news that Melon Music Awards (MMA) will not be held this year.

Every year between the months of November and December, the music platform usually holds MMA, a music awards ceremony. However, there are reports that the ceremony will not take place this year due to the ongoing COVID-19, especially since the country is currently implementing level 2.5 social distancing rules.

One industry representative commented, “Ever since the month of July, it seems like Melon has decided not to host MMA this year.” Another source shared, “In order to hold the awards ceremony from late November to early December, they should have already looked into things, like the lineup and schedule, but they have not taken any action yet. [That means] MMA decided to take a break this year due to COVID-19 without switching to an online ceremony.”

In response, a source from Kakao, the company that is in charge of Melon, shared, “MMA will be held this year, and we are considering various aspects due to the external factors. We will announce the date and arrangement once they are confirmed.”
