ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo, Lee Seung Gi, And Shin Sung Rok Reminisce About The Highs And Lows Of Their Careers

On the October 25 episode of SBS’s “Master in the House,” the cast members created a graph of their lives with actor Bae Sung Woo.

The graphs showed the members self-charting the high and low points of their lives thus far. After revealing his graph, ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo said, “I started training when I was 17, and it was really hard. To be honest, before I became a trainee, I received a lot of praise. I was good at studying and sports. When I first became a trainee, I was not good compared to the others. It was the first time that I’d been scolded, and my self-confidence fell to the floor.”

He continued, “I heard things like, ‘If you’re going to use your body like that, then give it to me,’ and ‘You’re like a sack of barley that’s been inserted here’ about 30 times a day. I got compared a lot, and I would cry every day behind the dorm. I think that if there’s one thing I learned from four years of training, it’s patience.”

Shin Sung Rok was a basketball player before he became an actor. “I became part of a theater troupe when I was 22 and met Bae Sung Woo,” he said. “He was different. I could feel that right away.” About his breakout role in “My Love From The Star,” he said, “I wasn’t going to do it at first, but I listened to Sung Woo and decided to go for it.”

Asked about his first impressions of Shin Sung Rok, Bae Sung Woo said, “I could sense a self-confidence that wasn’t conceit from him. I liked his passion and his energy.” At his words, Shin Sung Rok started tearing up and said, “I just remembered how I used to be. I’d forgotten.” Bae Sung Woo comforted him and said, “You haven’t changed that much.”

Lee Seung Gi, who debuted as a singer, hit it big right away with his song “Because You’re My Woman.” He said, “My popularity rose with the public right after my debut. But my personal happiness and satisfaction were the complete opposite. The pressure was too intense. This was a time in which I felt constantly nervous and pressured. Until now, there was never a time in my life where I felt I was happy every day. It felt like I had a stone weighing on my chest. Even when I spoke, I wasn’t really speaking from the heart, but just moving my mouth.”

He continued, “So I was actually happy to go to the military. It felt freeing. My happiness rose during my military service. I was so happy to be thinking of simple things like, ‘When will I eat?’ and ‘When will my next leave be?’ And now this is my most happiest time. I think there’s a good balance between who I am as a person and who I am as a celebrity.”
