ITZY Opens Up About The Importance Of Self-Esteem + The Kind Of Artist They Strive To Be

In a recent interview and pictorial for Elle magazine, ITZY shared their thoughts on their career and their hopes for the future.

The girl group, who will be gracing the cover of the magazine’s December issue, posed for their shoot in classic looks that showcased the members’ elegant side. Afterwards, they sat down to chat about their identity as a group and their strong desire to keep growing as artists.

ITZY leader Yeji expressed confidence in the group’s teamwork, adding, “When I look at the overall picture that our five members have created with my own two eyes, if I feel like we did a great job, then that makes me happy.”

As for the specific ways in which they hope to improve as artists, Lia remarked, “Personally, I’m often moved by the expressiveness of an artist’s voice or their unique timbre, so I pay a lot of attention to my tone [while singing].”

Ryujin also spoke about the powerful dance performances for which ITZY has come to be known. “Before I go on stage, I try to channel even my nervousness into energy,” she revealed. “I think our dance performances are defined by our ability to also sing live at the same time.”

The ITZY members went on to explain why they believe their confident song lyrics about being yourself—no matter what others think or say—are so important.

“Our song lyrics could be exactly what someone out there needs to hear in order to keep going in life,” said Chaeryeong. “They could be an important message that someone out there really needs to hear.”

Yuna chimed in, “Living life honestly is what truly makes me feel most confident and free. I believe that in order to keep your self-esteem up, you need to do the best you can with what you’ve got.”
