Im Siwan Talks About Working With Shin Se Kyung And How He Prepared for Their New Drama

Im Siwan recently talked about his upcoming JTBC drama “Run On.”

“Run On” is a drama about people trying to connect with each other through their own languages after having lived in their individual worlds. Im Siwan stars as former track and field athlete Ki Sun Kyum, who retires after a life-changing event and becomes a sports agent.

Unlike his other recent projects, “Run On” is a classic romance drama. Im Siwan said, “When I first read the script, I was drawn to the ‘taste’ of the words that felt so realistic. The dialogue had a natural flow, and the emotions felt true to what people these days are feeling.”

He added that he had tried out some changes for the new role. “I grew out my hair and tried various styles,” he said. “Compared to previous projects, I wore a lot of nice clothes in bright colors and flashy patterns. I think that detail is important. I got lessons in running. I’ve done marathons before, so I thought it would be easy to learn, but the muscles used and the posture were different, so there were some difficulties. I worked with the other actors who also play athletes in the drama, and I worked out so I would have the physique of an athlete.”

About his character, Im Siwan shared, “Ki Sun Kyum seems like he was born with a golden spoon: a father who was a member of the National Assembly, a mother who was a well-loved actress, sisters who ranked No. 1 in the world in golf. But he feels a weight on his shoulders because he doesn’t know what he really wants. Oh Mi Joo [Shin Se Kyung’s character] comes into his life without warning and teaches him something he didn’t know about himself. If Mi Joo didn’t take interest in Sun Kyum’s words and actions, he would never be more than a handsome athlete from a rich family. But Mi Joo understands him and draws out his true self.”

About his co-star, Shin Se Kyung, he said, “She’s an actor that you can never get tired of complimenting. The reason that our characters are already such a well-matched couple is because of her respect toward her co-stars and her ability to set them at ease.”

“Run On” premieres on December 16 at 9 p.m. KST.
