Former Girl Group Member And Actress Overcomes Her Slump On “The King Of Mask Singer”
On the November 29 episode of MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer,” a new crop of challengers emerged to see who would get to take on the current champion, Stove Cat.
The second match-up of Round 1 was between “High School Third Year” and “Gosa,” who sang a duet to Cool’s ‘Sorrow.”
Panelist Park Hye Won said that High School Third Year sounded like an idol main vocalist, while Gosa sounded like an actor. Sandara Park added that she thought High School Third Year was quite young.
High School Third Year advanced to the next round with 16 points and Gosa took off her mask while singing Sung Si Kyung’s “It Would Be Good.” She revealed herself to be former After School member and actress Yoo So Young.
Yoo So Young shared that she had developed a trauma related to singing and said, “I wanted to avoid appearing on ‘The King of Mask Singer’ because there are so many expectations attached to you if they know you’re a former singer. But it occurred to me that I could expand the choices for my future if I came on the show, so I decided to appear.”
She continued, “I had a big slump last year and thought a lot about my career path. Recently, I think I’ve recovered a little. I want to try lots of different fields in the future. I don’t have an agency right now, so if you want to cast me, please contact me through social media.”
On her Instagram, she wrote, “This week, Gosa on ‘The King of Mask Singer’ was me, Soyoung! It was a show that I was really scared of, but I made up my mind to take up the challenge. It was one of the biggest challenges of my life. The preparation period felt both short and long, but thank you to my teacher Park Sang Joon who gave me help and courage, to Hye Jung unni and my brother-in-law for giving me nice clothes to wear, and to our Jjinnie and the writers!! I had a lot of fun while preparing and performing!”
