PD Na Young Suk Talks About Future Plans For Shows, Answers Questions About Casting, And More
On December 26, producing director (PD) Na Young Suk was the latest guest on tvN’s “Party at Home” series on YouTube.
During the show, Na Young Suk answered questions that were sent in real-time from viewers. Asked about the next season of “New Journey to the West,” he answered, “We just finished a season, so it’ll be hard to see a new season soon. I think you’ll have to wait a while. I am grateful that people are eager to see ‘New Journey to the West’ again so soon.”
He added jokingly, “Since we’re all at home for the holidays, please watch it two or three times. tvN is going through a hard time right now. If you watch it a lot, then we’ll sell more advertisements. Thank you very much.”
The PD was also asked if he had any thoughts of casting EXO and BTS in his shows. About EXO, he responded, “The first part of their appearance on ‘Things that Make Me Groove’ was revealed through my YouTube channel. Because of various reasons, I wasn’t able to upload the second half this week. I am in the middle of editing, and it will definitely come out next week. The second half is a lot more fun than the first half. You will be able to see Xiumin and Baekhyun in a more relaxed mood, so I hope that EXO fans will watch it.”
EXO’s Xiumin and Baekhyun appeared with Super Junior’s Kyuhyun on the short-form spin-off show “Things that Make Me Groove,” which airs on YouTube as well as in short segments on tvN.
About BTS, Na Young Suk responded with a laugh, “Wouldn’t they have to cast me? If they called me, I would come running. But I don’t think I’m at the level where I can bring them here.”
He also shared that he is in discussions for a new series of “Kang’s Kitchen” and said, “Nothing has been decided yet, but we’re always discussing things related to it. I would like it if Kang Ho Dong were to run a Chinese restaurant. He likes Chinese food, so it might be nice if we could spin it as his recovery from the ‘panic’ of the live broadcast at the Chinese restaurant in ‘New Journey to the West.’ On one hand, there is Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun, and Eun Ji Won, who run an old-fashioned local restaurant, and on the other, there is Kyuhyun, P.O, and Song Mino, who are hip friends coming down from Seoul. The food, service, and interior of the two restaurants would be totally different. It wouldn’t be a competition, but just having fun selling things together. I want to see the younger cast members run a restaurant too.”
Na Young Suk also shared some plans for new YouTube content and said, “When I was doing a live broadcast in the past, Yoo Hee Yeol came to visit. He promoted the Antenna YouTube channel and said that he would release a new song with SECHSKIES if it got a certain number of subscribers. It was a mistake that he made, but I suddenly felt the urge to make it happen. He did pass the subscriber goal, so even though it’s been seven years since he’s written a new song, he recently wrote it and is working with SECHSKIES on recording it. The behind-the-scenes process of their new ballad will be shown on my YouTube channel.”
