Jeon Do Yeon And Ryu Jun Yeol's Upcoming JTBC Drama Shares Character Details
JTBC’s upcoming drama starring Jeon Do Yeon and Ryu Jun Yeol has revealed new details!
JTBC’s “Disqualified as a Human” (literal title) tells the story of average people who realize they haven’t become anything throughout their lives and try their best to see the spotlight. Jeon Do Yeon stars as Boo Jung, a woman in her 40s who feels lost and as if she wasn’t able to amount to anything. Ryu Jun Yeol plays Kang Jae, a young man who becomes afraid of himself out of fear that he won’t be able to become anything.
The drama is directed by Heo Jin Ho, the director behind hit films like “Forbidden Dream,” “Princess Deokhye,” “One Fine Spring Day,” and “Christmas in August.” He is especially garnering attention for this project as it is his first-ever drama. The script is written by Kim Ji Hye who has previously worked on films such as “Wish,” “My Love, My Bride,” and “Architecture 101.”
Five years after her hit role in “Good Wife,” Jeon Do Yeon is making her return to dramas as ghostwriter Boo Jung. Although Boo Jung has come this far doing the best she can, she is someone who feels she has lost all meaning to life when she one day comes to face her failures. As she looks at the steep decline of life ahead of her, Boo Jung dives straight into that darkness. Through Boo Jung, Jeon Do Yeon will be able to portray a wide array of emotional development ranging from loss and anxiety to emptiness and loneliness.
Ryu Jun Yeol will also be making an intense transformation through his role as Kang Jae, a 27-year-old man who runs a service in which people act as the roles that customers require. Kang Jae is a risk seeker who works at overcoming his poverty to reach a higher status. He tries to take various shortcuts while dreaming of being wealthy but feels like he has achieved nothing when he’s faced with a steep uphill battle. There, he meets Boo Jung and has a change of heart.
Director Heo Jin Ho revealed that he thought of Jeon Do Yeon and Ryu Jun Yeol as soon as he read the script. He explained, “Melodramas that have to get viewers to relate without particularly stimulating devices is a difficult genre. We are trying to implement this through the acting of these two actors who always use an authentic approach.”
He continued, “I’m so thankful and excited that I get to work with these two actors in my first drama. We are trying to warmly capture the bitter stories of Boo Jung and Kang Jae.”
JTBC’s “Disqualified as a Human” also stars Apink‘s Son Naeun, Park Byung Eun, Jo Eun Ji, Kim Hyo Jin, and Park Ji Young, and it will premiere in the second half of 2021.
