Watch: Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung And Kang Tae Oh Struggle To Get Their Kiss Scene Just Right For “Run On”
In a new behind-the-scenes video, Sooyoung and Kang Tae Oh work together to perfect the scene in which Seo Dan Ah (Sooyoung) surprises Lee Young Hwa (Kang Tae Oh) by unexpectedly kissing him. Before they begin filming, Kang Tae Oh boasts that he got an A+ in art class back when he was in school. However, the art teacher on set tells him to be bolder in his strokes, joking, “Right now, you don’t seem like an A+ student.”
Sooyoung and Kang Tae Oh then move on to rehearsing their actual kiss scene, with the director initially standing in for Sooyoung as Kang Tae Oh shyly reads his lines. The two co-stars meticulously figure out the best way for Sooyoung to go in for the kiss, with Sooyoung asking Kang Tae Oh, “How do guys usually kiss girls?” After he demonstrates, Sooyoung makes him burst out laughing by rapidly trying out a flurry of different approaches to the kiss while asking, “Like this? Or like this?”
In the end, Kang Tae Oh suggests that Sooyoung grab him by the shirt and pull him in, saying, “Pick a concept! Do you want something forceful or something gentle?” Sooyoung ultimately settles on grabbing him by the collar, which both Kang Tae Oh and the director agree looks good. She goes on to joke, “No matter what, I need to look pretty,” to which Kang Tae Oh replies, “Of course, CEO.”
When the cameras are rolling, the two actors pull off the emotional scene with perfect chemistry, but their dynamic turns playful the moment that the director yells “Cut!” Sooyoung teasingly tells her co-star, “I think you need to be taller [for the kiss to look better],” and Kang Tae Oh plays along by standing on tiptoe and joking, “I’m sorry. I need to be born again.”
Amidst all the joking around, the co-stars also work hard to figure out the best angle for the kiss. After one take, the director cracks up the two leads by remarking that it looks like Sooyoung is going for Kang Tae Oh’s philtrum. As everyone on set bursts into laughter, Kang Tae Oh suggests that she aim for his chin next time, and the tactic proves successful.
