Watch: Park Shin Hye Stays Hopeful While Listening To BTS'

Park Shin Hye’s “Sisyphus: The Myth” character keeps her hope up as she listens to BTS’ “Spring Day“!

JTBC’s upcoming 10th anniversary special drama “Sisyphus: The Myth” is a fantasy-mystery drama starring Cho Seung Woo as Han Tae Sool, a genius engineer who embarks on a perilous journey to bring to light hidden beings that are secretly residing in our world, and Park Shin Hye as his savior Kang Seo Hae, who has walked a long and dangerous path for him.

Kang Seo Hae is a heroic soldier who comes from a barren future that’s fallen into ruin, and she grew up undergoing intense training in order to survive. Previous teasers have shown her as an unbeatable warrior, but a new teaser shared on January 29 gives a look at another side of her.

The video shows Kang Seo Hae in the ruins of the popular shopping district Myeongdong in a gas mask, and she’s pleased to discover a poster for BTS’s concert film “Bring the Soul.” She takes off her gas mask and turns on BTS’s 2017 hit “Spring Day” on her phone, putting in earphones and smiling. As the song plays, she continues to walk through the ruins. She then smiles and says, “Happy birthday, Kang Seo Hae.”

The production team shared, “There is a greater meaning to ‘Spring Day,’ the song included in the teaser, than simply it being a song that Seo Hae likes.” Kang Seo Hae is someone who lives in a future Korea that’s in ruins because of a war. The sight of her walking through the devastated Myeongdong, which was once a shopping mecca packed with people, gives a hint at the rough world in which she lives. She has to wear a gas mask because of the polluted air and she survives on canned food. As she attempts to make it day to day in a world that’s been taken over by gangsters and warlords, she tries to find her own sources of hope.

One of those things is BTS’ “Spring Day,” which brings back Seo Hae’s happy past and represents the times before Seoul was destroyed. Kang Seo Hae doesn’t forget to smile and stays hopeful despite her difficult life. It’s described that the song is a perfect fit for Seo Hae’s current situation, as it conveys a message of remembering and missing a precious person that one has parted ways with while also not losing the hope of meeting them again one day.

The production team stated, “‘Spring Day’ has a very symbolic meaning for Seo Hae. This song that gives Seo Hae hope has been in the script since the planning stages, and we asked for permission from BTS’ side to use it before it was included in the video.” They added, “Please look forward to seeing if Seo Hae, who never loses hope, will experience a ‘Spring Day’ where flowers will bloom again.”
