Defconn Denies Rumors That He Spent Time In Juvenile Detention In The Past

On February 2, Defconn’s agency, SM C&C, responded to recent rumors about Defconn’s past.

During the January 30 episode of MBC’s “How Do You Play?”, Defconn appeared dressed up as a police investigator for a concept that the show was doing. After the broadcast, someone claimed in the show’s viewer forum that Defconn had been in juvenile detention in the past and criticized Defconn for playing a police detective when he had a criminal record. Due to these claims, some people began calling for Defconn to step down from “How Do You Play?”.

There was no official confirmation or evidence for the commenter’s claim that Defconn had been in juvenile detention. Back in 2013, Defconn had appeared on an MBC variety show and spoken honestly about being involved in a gang fight when he was in school. He explained that he had started acting out as a student after his parents had become the victims of a financial scam, and that he had fallen in with the wrong crowd in high school. After the fight, he was taken to the police station for questioning and began to self-reflect on his actions after seeing his parents’ disappointment in him. The victim’s family initially filed charges, but Defconn’s grandparents pleaded with the judge on their grandson’s behalf and Defconn’s parents borrowed money in order to reach a settlement with the victim. Defconn left the school and later took a qualification exam and attended a Christian school.

In SM C&C’s new statement, Defconn reiterated what he had said before about being involved in a gang fight at school but denied that he had ever been to juvenile detention.

Hello, this is SM C&C.

We have recently confirmed that malicious rumors and unconfirmed falsehoods are spreading online about our artist, Defconn. This includes reckless criticism, malicious slander, and the spread of false information.

As Defconn has said before on TV, there was a time when he participated in a gang fight that his friends started at school. At that time, he made his sincere apologies to the victim and resolved to always self-reflect on his actions so that he could work to become a better person for his family and for the people around him. It is not true that he was in juvenile detention, or put on probation, or that he received a military exemption. He had thought that he had worked hard to improve until now, but he realizes that he is still lacking in many respects and is continuing to reflect on himself. He will work even harder from now on.

As an agency, we must restore our artist’s slandered reputation and protect him from incurring even further damage. We are currently collecting evidence of the malicious rumors and false information that is spreading about him online.

Including Defconn, the agency will engage in proactive monitoring and legal action for all our artists. We will protect the reputation and human rights of our artists.

Thank you.
