Watch: CL Shares Emotional Tribute To Her Late Mother In "Wish You Were Here" Music Video
On February 26, CL released the music video for “Wish You Were Here.”
The video is a tribute to her late mother. In early February, CL’s agency stated that CL’s mother, Hong Yoo Ra, had passed away from a heart attack in January while living abroad. The funeral took place in February with only family and close friends in attendance due to COVID-19.
On Instagram, CL wrote, “Every year, our birthdays should be in celebration of the Gift of Life our mothers gave us. This year, I made ‘Wish You Were Here’ for my mom, my family and anyone else who misses a loved one. If you love someone, tell them now.”

In the video, CL sings an emotional message to her mother along with photo and video footage of her childhood. To create the self-produced, self-written song, she went through memories of their phone conversations together, as well as the playlists they created together.
