Boy Group Main Vocalist Stands On Stage For First Time Since Military Discharge On “The King Of Mask Singer”
On the February 28 episode of MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer,” four contestants competed to try and block Barcode’s quest for their second consecutive crown.
The first match-up of Round 2 was between Penthouse and Type B Woman. Penthouse sang Sung Si Kyung’s Hee Jae, while Type B Woman sang Girl’s Generation’s Taeyeon’s “If.”
Penthouse advanced to Round 3, where he faced off against Snow Duck. Penthouse sang Kim Sejeong’s “Flower Way” and impressed with his clear vocals. Snow Duck sang Kim Gun Mo’s “Alone in Love” and interpreted the grief of a breakup with calm sorrow. With 18 votes to 3, Snow Duck was chosen to face off against Barcode for the crown.
Penthouse took off his mask to reveal himself as Block B’s Taeil. Taeil, who was discharged from his mandatory military service in January, said, “It’s the first time in two years that I’m standing on stage. I was really nervous, but I took heart from all the kind words that the panelists shared. This is my first onstage performance after completing military service, so please look forward to my future promotions.”
Taeil added that his goal was to hit No. 1 on the realtime search rankings and said, “I want to let people know that I’ve been discharged. There aren’t a lot of places to perform onstage these days, so I think this came at a good time for me. I want to continue to promote well.”
