Update: Han Ye Ri, Um Tae Goo, And Yoo Jae Myung Confirmed To Star In OCN Mystery Drama

Updated March 25 KST:

On March 25, a source from OCN stated that Han Ye Ri, Um Tae Goo, and Yoo Jae Myung have been confirmed to join the cast of their upcoming drama “Hometown.”

“Hometown” is set in a small rural town in 1999 and centers around a police detective named Choi Hyung In, who is investigating a strange murder, and Jo Jung Hyun, who is searching for her missing niece. The two of them become involved in an incident with a terrorist named Jo Kyung Ho.

Yoo Jae Myung has been cast as Choi Hyung In, a police detective in the violent crimes division who lost his wife due to a terrorist incident. Consumed with guilt for failing to prevent his wife’s death, he lived like a ghost for a decade. When he’s put in charge of a strange murder case, he starts to suspect that the case, the terrorist incident, and his family are all connected.

Han Ye Ri has been cast as Jo Jung Hyun, who is a social outcast because she is the family member of a known terrorist. Her older brother ruined her life with his crimes, but she rebuilt her life by taking care of his daughter, Jo Jae Young. But when her niece goes missing, she comes face to face with tragedy once again.

Um Tae Goo has been cast as Jo Kyung Ho, who has been imprisoned for life after perpetrating an indiscriminate terrorist attack. In 1989, after studying abroad in Japan, he returned to his hometown and committed a terrorist attack by releasing lethal sarin gas into the train station. He then turned himself in and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

“Hometown” is set to premiere sometime in the second half of 2021.

The potential cast lineup for OCN’s “Hometown” (literal title) is getting even more exciting!

“Hometown” is described as a mystery thriller drama about a puzzling series of murders in a small town and the hunt for the truth about a tape that plays strange, unidentified sounds.

On March 11, it was reported by TenAsia that “Minari” star Han Ye Ri is in the final stages of discussions to appear in “Hometown.” Han Ye Ri reportedly was offered the role of Jo Jung Hyun, a woman who helps her mother run a Chinese restaurant. She has to deal with stigma, as they’re seen as the family of a terrorist. While Jo Jung Hyun is a very ordinary person, she also possesses great courage.

Later that day, Han Ye Ri’s agency confirmed with The Celuv that she’s received an offer for the show and is in talks.

In addition to the hit film “Minari,” Han Ye Ri has also appeared in movies such as “A Quiet Dream,” “The Table,” and “Champion” and dramas including “Six Flying Dragons,” “Hello, My Twenties!”, “Nokdu Flower,” “My Unfamiliar Family,” and more.

Previously, the agencies of both Um Tae Goo and Yoo Jae Myung confirmed that the actors are in talks for roles in “Hometown.”

According to a report by Ilgan Sports, Um Tae Goo is up for the character of Jo Kyung Ho, the real culprit behind a terror attack. When he returned to his hometown after studying abroad in Japan, Jo Kyung Ho committed an indiscriminate act of terrorism using gas, and he turned himself in to the police afterward. He never explained what his goal was or why he chose that location for the attack, and he also never said why he gave himself up to the authorities. He’s in prison serving a life sentence and he’s cut off communication with the outside world.

Um Tae Goo starred in OCN’s 2019 drama “Save Me 2,” and many fans are excited to find out if he’ll make a comeback with one of the network’s new original genre projects. His filmography also includes movies like “The Great Battle” and “A Taxi Driver.”

Yoo Jae Myung has acted in dramas such as “Reply 1988, “Stranger,” “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” and “Itaewon Class” as well as films including “For the Emperor” and “Voice of Silence”. He’ll also soon appear in the movies “Alien” and “Firefighter” (literal titles). Details about the “Hometown” character he’s considering have not yet been revealed.

It’s reported by Ilgan Sports that “Hometown” will be a six-episode drama and is planned for a summer 2021 premiere.
