Kim So Hyun Discusses Her Approach To Acting, How She Stays Motivated, And More

Kim So Hyun recently collaborated with Singles Magazine for a stunning pictorial!

In the interview that followed, the actress discussed her roles in “River Where the Moon Rises” and “Love Alarm,” her growth as a performer, and more.

In her current drama “River Where the Moon Rises,” Kim So Hyun has taken on a dual role. She described the series as a “big challenge,” saying, “I contemplated a lot before starting the drama. To be honest, it was to the point of thinking to myself about how great it would have been if I had played the role a few years down the road. But I knew that if I let the piece go, it would remain as a regret. I thought that if I worked hard, it might be an opportunity for change. It was a lot of pressure, but I’m glad that I’m hearing a lot of positive feedback on my acting.”

She further explained that she works through her doubts on acting by receiving advice from those that have been in the industry longer than she has been.

Kim So Hyun also described the hardships she faced in taking on the role of Jojo in “Love Alarm,” which premiered its second season in March. She explained, “I need to understand and embrace Jojo, but it was hard to get into her difficult situation and dig into her complicated emotions. I wondered if my spectrum of acting was too narrow to properly express Jojo. I tried hard to follow the path that the director and writers of seasons one and two made and I gained courage when the director complimented me saying that I was doing a great job. Going through the seasons, I also got to think deeply about the forms of love. Mature love, and the essence of love.”

During her 13 years as an actress, Kim So Hyun has portrayed a wide range of characters in many genres. She commented, “I sometimes replay some of my previous works. Especially when I need motivation, I go back and search for clips or behind-the-scenes footage from a piece I like. I get comforted by reminiscing over what attitude I had then and what kind of happiness I felt.”

When asked what she’d like to commend herself on, Kim So Hyun replied, “My efforts as an actress. I try not to ignore and rather face the things that I think I lack in. I take in what people around me tell me, search for aspects I want to change, and work on them through my next projects. This is something I work really hard on so I want to compliment myself at least on this.”

When asked what kind of person she’d like to be remembered as when in her thirties, Kim So Hyun responded, “I would like thirty-year-old me to be a solid and honest person. Like I am now, a little more than I am now.”
