Lee Seung Gi Talks About The Praise For His Acting In

Lee Seung Gi participated in an interview about his recent drama “Mouse” soon after its final episode on May 19.

In “Mouse,” Lee Seung Gi’s character, Jung Ba Reum, showed various sides such as an innocent and pure young man, a sharp and intelligent police detective, and a psychopathic predator with a cold and empty gaze. As the predator, it was the first time that Lee Seung Gi had played a villainous role since his debut as an actor.

In response to the praise for his performance in “Mouse,” Lee Seung Gi said, “I’m still dazed by all the compliments my acting has received. I’ve always wanted to be recognized for my acting, but I’ve also always felt that I was lacking. I’m grateful and happy to have received so much praise for this project. The most meaningful compliment I heard was, ‘It was different from the psychopaths that we’d seen onscreen before.’ The script for ‘Mouse’ was so solid that I thought I would get absorbed into the overall storyline, but a lot of people have also shown interest in the character as well.”

About playing a psychopath, he said, “The image that people have of ‘Lee Seung Gi’ is completely different from the image that people have of a ‘psychopath.’ A lot of people were worried about me taking on the role as a result. But Jung Ba Reum is someone who is both extremely good and extremely evil. I think that the public image of me actually helped me create the character. Instead of thinking in terms of good and evil, I want to play characters that are appealing and whom I can relate to. I felt that playing Jung Ba Reum expanded my acting spectrum, and instead of worrying about playing good or evil roles, I want to keep playing diverse characters.”

Lee Seung Gi shared his affection for the entire cast and crew of “Mouse,” saying, “I realized once again how much easier it is to get immersed in my role and to grow as an actor when I have good chemistry with good actors. Because of COVID-19, we couldn’t all finish filming together and have a big dinner together. We were separated and ended on different days. Instead, we promised to meet up once the situation has improved.”

Lee Seung Gi picked the scene in which Jung Ba Reum and Go Moo Chi (Lee Hee Joon) met in the reception room in the final episode as his most memorable. “It was the first time in a while that I wasn’t even acting, I had become the character and felt what he felt,” he said. “It was 100 percent sincere. It’s difficult even for a longtime actor to get into that state, so I was grateful for Lee Hee Joon for helping me experience that. I think that it was specifically because of him that I was able to cry like that.”
