On June 14, Jung Ilhoon’s lawyer filed an appeal to the Seoul Central District Court over the first trial’s ruling. Jung Ilhoon has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined 133 million won (approximately $119,200) for violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics, Etc.

Jung Ilhoon was brought to trial for suspicions of purchasing and smoking 826 grams (approximately 1.8 pounds) of marijuana using approximately 130 million won (approximately $116,500) across 161 instances between July 5, 2016 and January 9, 2019 together with seven other defendants. Depending on the number of instances they smoked marijuana, the seven other defendants received varied sentences between one year and six months through two years or a suspended sentence.
The court stated, “The defendants communicated through the dark web in order for their crime to not be easily detected, and they used elaborate criminal methods such as making transactions with the cryptocurrency bitcoin.”
Regarding Jung Ilhoon and another defendant Park, the court said, “The two defendants played leading roles and carried out the criminal acts the highest number of times.”
Jung Ilhoon enlisted as a public service worker in May 2020 and withdrew from BTOB in December 2020. Last month, the prosecution requested four years in prison with a fine, and his confirmed sentence of two years in prison with a fine was announced today.
