UP10TION Talks About Participating In Production Of New Album, Meaning Of "Connection," And More

On June 14, UP10TION held an online showcase for the release of their second full-length album, “Connection.”

“Connection,” UP10TION’s first comeback in nine months, was released on June 14, along with the title track “SPIN OFF.” Kuhn said, “I told fans that they should sleep early, but I wasn’t able to sleep. It’s our first comeback in a while, so I was too nervous to sleep. But I wanted to show a cool image to fans, so I worked hard to prepare. Since it’s a full-length album, we worked even harder to show a good image.”

Kogyeol said, “Our last album was about recognizing each other’s individual light, but this one is about making light together through our synergy.” Xiao added, “We wanted to express the feeling of ‘connection.’ We practiced a lot in order to show that we had improved.”

Of the ten tracks on “Connection,” most of the b-side tracks feature lyrics written by Kuhn and Bit-to. In addition, Bit-to and Kogyeol participated in composing the track “Sky Line” and Xiao co-composed the song “Destroyed” and “Honey Cake.” Xiao said, “I’m happy that my songs were able to make it to the full-length album. I was really nervous while preparing them, and I hope that fans will like it.” Kogyeol added, “It’s my first time adding a song that I wrote on the album. I hope the fans will listen to it well.”

Kuhn and Bit-to also participated in writing the rap for the title track, “SPIN OFF.” Kuhn said, “I approached it with a strong sense of determination. I wanted it to match the song about the strong resolution to make a fresh start.” Bit-to said, “I wanted to write something similar to ‘Light,’ [our previous title track], and I’m happy with the results.”

Xiao shared that “Connection” symbolized the group finding UP10TION’s own personal color. “‘Personal color’ refers to the innate color that suits a person,”  he said. “‘SPIN OFF’ is UP10TION’s personal color. We call it ‘UP-ersonal color.'” Bit-to said, “We wanted to show that our chemistry is stronger than ever.”
